*Thursday, October 25: Vet Clinic Field Trip: We will be walking to Lake Country Vet Clinic for a field trip. Please have your child prepared for cold weather (coat, hat, gloves). We will walk unless it is raining. Permission is covered by a blanket form signed at the beginning of the school year for trips in Albany.
*Halloween Party: Wednesday, October 31: We will have a party and parade around the school. Please send your child's costume in a separate bag to help stay organized. This year we will have parties on Halloween, Valentines, & Christmas. I will ask some kids to bring treats for each party (you would've already received a note if you were on for Halloween). Some folks still like to send a treat even if they aren't on for something, and that is okay. *Math: Please continue to help your child work on telling time to the hour and counting combinations of nickels and pennies. We have also just reviewed adding and subtracting so fact practice is also great to work on.

*No spelling or speak-up this week.
*No school Thursday or Friday. *Picture Retakes are Oct. 24. Pictures should be arriving this week. *Wednesday, October 10: Walk (or bike) to School Day. We are encouraging your students to walk/bike to school Wednesday. If they do not live within walking distance, they can be dropped off in town or at the school entrance and can walk the rest of the way to school.
*Yearbooks: Yearbooks are available for purchase from now until February 1. Please see the link below to order. https://www.jostens.com/apps/store/productBrowse/1128647/Albany-Elementary-School/2019-Yearbook/20180911043129670125/CATALOG_SHOP/ *Walkathon: The Walkathon went great! We did end up having it inside at the BECC. We are so fortunate to have such a wonderful place to use.
*Clocks: This coming week I will send home a paper clock we made in class. Please keep this clock for practice for the rest of the year. Right now we are working on very basic things. Please help your child tell the difference between the hour & minute hand and tell time to the hour. *Apple Crunch, October 11: Our school is participating in the Great Lakes Great Apple Crunch. The Great Apple Crunch is promoting that schools, early care and education sites, hospitals, and other organizations care about supporting Minnesota agriculture, farmers and farmworkers. We will "crunch" apples on Thursday, October 11 at Noon. Have your child wear a flannel/plaid shirt if they'd like to! *Weather: As the weather fluctuates, please make sure your child has a jacket, hat & gloves each day. If you'd like, they can leave extras on the top shelf of his/her locker. *Book Fair Volunteer Opportunity from Ms. Eibensteiner: I'm gathering a team volunteers to help out at our upcoming Scholastic Book Fair, and I would like to invite you to help out by cashiering at the book fair. It really is easy and fun! Please take a moment to view our sign-up sheet. Spread the word to your friends and invite them to help us have the best Book Fair ever! http://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080f45a9a623a46-albany5 If you need to contact me, please use the email address below. Thank you! [email protected] *Reading Sheet & Spelling Test: Today you will see a new homework sheet that contains the new sounds, high frequency words & spelling words. Please practice this sheet several times a week. We will have our spelling first test on Friday. Tests will always be on Fridays unless it's a short week.
***Please allow your child several chances to practice the spelling words before you "quiz" him/her. Here are some practice ideas: Write the words several times (use crayons, markers, dry erase boards), use play dough flattened and write the words with a popsicle stick, pour salt or sand in a cake pan and trace the words in salt, hold the word up on a piece of paper and your child can do jumping jacks/lunges/run in place while spelling it. If it's commonly occurring word like "the", have your child look for it in the newspaper or some type of print and circle it. *No Speak-up this week due to the Walkathon. *Friday, October 5: Walkathon: Turn in your pledges at any time or as you collect them. I'll send the envelope back in case you need it. *Tuesday, October 2: Purple slips containing your conference time will be sent home. *Math: I will not send any formal math homework this year. I'll periodically include ideas on the blog. For now, please practice counting up and back by 1s, 2s, 5s, & 10s and addition fact practice. |
