Hi!
We had a great trip to Sibley State Park. Hiking, ponding, animal habitats and so much more! Please see the photos tab for a few new pictures. Please see below for a few things coming up this week. Wednesday, May 15: We'll be walking over to the BEAT to watch Todd Oliver. He's a ventriliquist/comedian/magician. This event is being brought to us as part of a grant from Allied Concert Services whose mission is "to bring world-class artists and attractions to communities outside of major metropolitan areas in the central United States". Thursday, May 16: We'll take a walking field trip to Central Minnesota Credit Union. CMCU employees were involved in teaching Junior Achievement and have offered to give us a tour. Thanks to a mom of one student in our class who taught the program and is setting up the tour for us!! Please remind your child to have tennis shoes and to dress for the weather. We'll be walking in the morning. Permission for field trips in Albany is covered by a form signed at the beginning of the school year. *Spelling Test: Thursday, May 9 (due to the field trip on Friday)
*No Speak-up this week *Sibley State Park Field Trip: Please... ** Dress in layers and bring sunscreen if you wish or apply it at home, we'll be outside the majority of the day. The naturalist from Sibley suggests dressing in layers. She also suggests wearing pants and long socks or shorts with long socks. Please check your child for ticks when he/she gets home from school. **Wear tennis shoes that are good for walking. **Pack an adequate lunch for your child (unless you ordered from school). We will eat lunch later than normal and the kids are quite hungry from hiking around. **Water Bottle: A water bottle is a great addition to lunch and helpful for a drink when we load the bus to go home. Lunches from the school do not contain a water bottle. *Summer Learning Adventures: If your child received paperwork for Summer Learning Adventures and is planning to attend, please send the paperwork back as soon as possible. *Bike/Walk to School day, May 8: May 8 is Bike/Walk to School Day. One option for those not able to bike/walk from home is to have someone drop them off at one of the school property entrances and let your child walk from there, or walk with them! Hi All!
*Headphones/Ear buds: We have testing on the iPads coming up in the next couple of weeks and many kids struggle with the earbuds that we have in school. If you're child would like to bring a pair of headphones from home to use instead of the ear buds we have here, please label them & we'll send them back home once we're finished. Please do not make a special trip to the store to purchase. *Wednesday, May 1: Mile Run. (Weather permitting). The kids will be running the mile for gym class. Please help your child to dress accordingly. Lots of kids like to have short or sweatpants. They can also choose to bring a water bottle along. *Baseball Gloves: The kids will also be doing a t-ball unit in gym. If your child has a glove, please send it along. PLEASE LABEL IT! If you don't have a glove, there are extras in gym, just not enough for all. Thanks! *Last week Freddie the Dog came with Lyn Metz to our classroom. The kids each got to read to him for a brief time. The kids loved it and it gives them so much confidence about their reading and also for some that are more timid of dogs. Freddie is a therapy dog and so well-behaved! Lyn brings him to the Albany Public Library often to read with kids. You do need to sign-up in order to have time to read with Freddie. Lyn also has a French Bulldog named Frankie that she brings as well! *PICTURES: Please check out the "Photos" tab for lots of new pictures! Thanks for your continued support! Sara Another snow day!!! It's hard to believe!!
Here are a few updates for the coming week... *Monday, April 15: Spelling Test (er, ir, ur, or) & Speak-up (baby picture) from Friday, April 12. If you don't have a picture printed of when your child was younger, please feel free to email me one. On Wednesday, I sent home some of the fluency pages we would have worked on yesterday and today. Please use these for extra practice. *Book Orders: I will extend the book order due date until Monday. *Friday, April 19: No school. We WILL have school on Monday, April 22. *Shapes Museum: For the next two weeks, we will be working on geometry in math. We will talk about 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional shapes. Please have your child bring in a few objects that can be left in our "Shapes Museum" for several days. The objects should not be valuable or breakable. Here are a few ideas....something that has a triangle, circle, or a square in it. *New pictures on the "Photos" tab. *Enjoy the great weather outside! Please have your child bring boots and snow pants again on Monday!! *Wednesday, April 10th: Pajama Day: The kids earned a good behavior award in music so they will get to have pajama day on Wednesday!
*Field Trips: Please return your field trip form if you haven't yet. (Sibley State Park on May 10 & Hemker Zoo on May 22). *This week's phonetic patterns & spelling words are really tricky (er, ir, ur, or). Please give our student lots of opportunity to practice. Pairing like words together and writing them many times will be especially helpful. There are also several fluency pages that will be sent home this week for extra practice. *Today we had lunch in the classroom as a reward for getting second place in the Food Shelf Drive. Thanks to all! *March 27: Spring Pictures (see flyer below)
*March 28: Minnesota Twins Day (dress in Twins gear or red, white & blue) *New pictures on the "Photos" tab March 4-8 In Celebration of Dr. Seuss’s birthday all are invited to participate with kindergarten.
Monday: Wear silly socks Tuesday: Wear green Wednesday: Wear stripes Thursday: Wear a hat Friday: Dress as your favorite character March 6-15 The student council is planning a food drive for March 6-15. The food-shelf director said that they can use all personal supplies, so if students have other items to bring, that is fine. They are not in need in of food at this time. Preschool - Kleenex Kindergarten - Kleenex 1st grade - Paper Towels 2nd grade- Toothpaste 3rd grade - Conditioner 4th grade - Shampoo 5th grade - Deodorant The grade level that brings the most items in will win the following: 1st place - Dress Mr. Jeff 2nd place - Eat in classrooms 3rd place - PJ/Comfy day Hello!!
