Hello!!
At the beginning of the week, your child brought home a set of paper dominoes. Please encourage your child to play Domino Top-It with someone. Each person picks up a domino and adds the two sides together. The person with the higher sum takes both dominoes. This is a great way to practice math facts. After several times they should be able to recognize dot patterns and know how many without counting and also remember some math facts without counting or adding on. Please continue to have you child reread any paper readers that come home. They include sight words we are practicing and letter patterns. I have seen wonderful progress from each student already this year. Thank you for your support at home! If you have an extra Christmas card that we can display, please send one to school. It's fun for all to see each other's families and have conversations about them. Thanks!

On the backs of reading worksheets there are also fluency pages and games that are great to play at home. It's also very helpful to continue to read any type of literature TO your child each day. Thanks so much!! Hi! Just a few classroom updates.
*Winter gear: Please label your child's snow pants and any other gear that's possible to label. It's also appreciated if your child has an extra pair of gloves and a hat in his/her bag or locker. *Telling Time: We are currently working on telling time to the hour and will begin telling time to the half hour soon. For time on the half hour, we say "half past six", etc. most often, but also introduce "Six thirty". Digital time will be introduced much later in the year. I will send home a paper clock for practice at home. No need to return it. *SeeSaw: Today I sent home directions on how to be connected to your child's digital portfolio called SeeSaw. We'll add to it in various ways throughout the year. Connection to the portfolio is optional. Thanks for your continued support! Hello! Please check the updates below. The days are passing so quickly!
*Pictures & Retakes: School pictures are coming home today in your child's backpack. Picture retake day is Wednesday, October 30. *Moby Max: Your child has started to practice math facts at school on a site called Moby Max. They start with addition and then move on at their own pace to subtraction and then even multiplication and division. I will send a letter home next week explaining how you can add this to an ipad or computer for your child to practice at home using their login and password. At school we have only used the math facts area, but there are many more options in math, reading, science, etc. I hope you find time to check it out. *Vet Clinic Trip: We had a great time learning about the life of a veterinarian. The students were able to listen to the heartbeat of a cat and dog, look through the microscope, and identify animals being xrayed. Check out our pictures at the vet clinic & many others from this year under "Photos" tab. Each time I add new photos I'll let you know. Just a reminder that your child can bring their Halloween costume to school in a bag. They will put it on in the afternoon before our party and then bring it back home again in their backpack. *Please see the last post regarding no food treats.
